China FDA Approves EV71 Vaccine, HFMD in Asia

The China Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that an enterovirus 71 inactivated vaccine (human diploid cell) is approved. This vaccine is designed by the Institute of Medical Biology, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. 

The vaccine for children effectively reduce the cases of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD), in particular reducing the severe and fatal cases of the disease. It has shown a 97.3% protection rate against EV71 in clinical trials.
